lyrics

Almustafa, the chosen and the beloved,
who was a dawn unto his own day,
had waited twelve years in the city of Ophalese
for the ship that was to bear him back to the isle of his birth.

He climbed the city walls and looked seaward,
and beheld the ship coming with the mist.
Then, the gates of his heart were flung open,
and his joy flew over the sea.
Then, he prayed in the silence of his soul.

But, as he descended the walls,
a great sadness came over him,
and he thought in his heart:

How will I go in peace without sorrow?
Nay, not without a wound I shall leave this city.
Yet, the sea calls all things unto her, and I must depart.

Too many fragments of the spirit,
too many are the children of my longing.

Yet, I can not tarry any longer.
A voice can not carry the tongue and the lips that give it wings.

As he reached the outskirts of the city,
he saw his ship approaching the harbor,
and upon her prow, the men of his own land.

And his soul cried out unto them:

I shall stand among you,
sons of my ancient mother!

Ready I am to go,
and my eagerness with sails set full,
awaits the wind.

Then, he prayed in the silence of his soul.
